Painting class is fun, I have to say. Kinda sad I can't take painting II until fall. However... I'm less productive with people around. I want to talk about my painting, get feedback + suggestions, and talk about thiers and just talk in general. I get so much more done when I get home, throw on some music and paint late at night when no one's up. I think my professor is a little aggravated at it, but I also make sure I put in the hours at home every week, so we're good.
We've been working on 16x20 canvases at school, and during a sale at Micheals I picked up some 8x10s to do some personal stuff on. I pulled one out today... jeebus does it look tiny now. I've gotten spoiled with the large canvases.
The school is having an Art Show/ Contest thing, like it does every year. I entered last year with a digital painting entry and didn't place. But this year entering a traditional painting, as the professor wants all of us to enter. And I really like how my last painting came out. I've been fighting with myself over a title for a week now. I think maybe Claimed by Green or something. I posted it on my facebook and am hoping someone can throw me a suggestion I like, I have a week to finish and turn it in. Feel free to toss me anything. I hate naming things. Seriously. Creating a character in a game takes twice as long as it should because I sit there on the Enter Name screen for 30 minutes or more.

I dunno. Perhaps I'll leave it as Painting #6.
Excited about the $200 first place prize though. My class all thinks I'm going to win, which is an awesome confidence booster, but since they're not judging, means nothing. It's a little sad that if you win first, they take your artwork to hang in the school. I think I'm only sad because this is only my 6th traditional painting ever, unless you count that one I did when I was 7. I know, I can paint more bricks for myself later. And I will. That was fun. And I've gotta get used to letting paintings go if I ever want to sell them. But my BABIES! xD How do you traditional artists DEAL with that? I'm so used to having digital work, where everything is essentially a copy and so I don't LOSE anything. And I'm only clingy because it's new, once it gets older it can venture out into the world alone.
I wish I had more things to upload, wish I'd finished more (any) of my digital projects that I'm working on. I'm trying to doodle more so I at least keep drawing something. I've been playing these games with myself, staring at an object and thinking 'Ok if I were going to paint that, how would I mix that color?' And it's keeping me in a traditional painting kinda mood.
This summer I am going to learn to watercolor. I want to so bad. I tend to water down my acrylics in the beginning stages for blocking in shapes, and everyone says it looks like watercolor. And I like it! layering colors one over another is fun. Also I think Laura mentioned something about Oils and us having painting days. I can't wait. New stuff! New ART stuff! I want to learn it all!
