I'm going to jump on this sketch-a-day bandwagon. I know I'm late to the party, hush. You people have shown such great improvement doing it, that you've convinced me!
I bought a new little 6x8 sketchbook that can fit in my purse and go everywhere with me. My main problem with sketchbooks is that I have a desire for it to be a collection of masterpieces, a convenient portfolio. So I stop using it, or am afraid to put pencil to paper, which is really counter productive and silly. So who cares what this looks like? The great ones I can cut out and collect elsewhere should I so choose. The goal is to pull it out and draw some
thing at least once a day, so that I can constantly access that area of my brain and keep my creative side from going to sleep on me. Yesterday's contributions are amazingly mediocre doodles.
Today I found references and drew *SenshiStock
's feet because I need practice. Well, I drew her right foot 4 times. And I like them enough that I may go back and do some more. I like the idea of making this sketchpad a series of studies, hands, feet, anatomy in general, expressions, landscapes, heaven forbid- animals. We'll see what happens, I'm only on day two of this project. I'll try and scan them and upload a sketch dump once a week.
I also got a pack of cheap watercolor pencils and a small watercolor pad, and unearthed my old crayola watercolors. Watercolors look awesome, and I want to learn to do it. At the very least I'd like to become more familiar with the medium. Just watch me spazz from one medium to another this summer, it'll be awesome!
In the next few weeks I'm gonna go through my gallery and organize it. Take all the WIP and put them in scraps, make new folders and un-clutter it. I don't plan to take anything down - a lot of these are the only record I have of having done them - even if my old stuff makes me cringe sometimes. I have ten years worth of stuff represented here. 10 years! Wow, I'd hoped to improve more in that time. Well I'll blow you away in 10 more years. That's a promise!
Sketchfest is coming up (July19-21), and I plan to participate again. It was fun when I did it ages ago and I'm hoping to rope some friends into participating this time as well. www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/s…
<~ check it out, and hope to see you there! I can't remember my login for it, and it's starting to really bug me. Le sigh.
I really do miss my dA subscription. I'm gonna have to see what I can do about that.
